AB Tasty: Complete Guide to A/B Testing and Personalization

VWO (Visual Website Optimizer) is a conversion rate optimization platform founded in India in 2009 by Wingify. It is now one of the most widely used CRO tools globally, with a presence in more than 90 countries and clients ranging from digital SMEs to large enterprises such as Ubisoft, AMD and eBay.
What sets VWO apart from other A/B testing platforms is its approach as a complete CRO suite: it not only enables tests, but also helps understand why users behave in a certain way (heatmaps, session recordings), gather their direct opinion (surveys, feedback forms) and act on those insights through personalization. All in a single platform with a unified dataset.
At Boost we use VWO as our primary testing tool for clients. We are an official VWO partner, which allows us to offer the platform with specialized support and access to its most advanced features.
A/B testing is the heart of any CRO program. VWO makes it accessible for both technical profiles and marketing teams without programming knowledge.
The testing module covers three modalities:
A/B testing: Comparison of one variant against the control with configurable traffic distribution. The visual editor allows creating variations without code; the code editor accepts custom HTML, CSS and JavaScript.
Multivariate testing: Tests combinations of changes across multiple elements simultaneously. VWO automatically calculates the minimum number of combinations needed and distributes traffic efficiently.
Split URL testing: Pits two completely different URLs against each other, ideal for full-page redesigns or comparing landing pages.
The insights module includes four tools:
Heatmaps: Heat maps showing where users click, how far they scroll and where they move the mouse. Essential for identifying ignored elements or areas of confusion before formulating test hypotheses.
Session recordings: Recordings of individual user behavior. Allow seeing exactly what happens before an abandonment: where the user gets stuck, what error they encounter, what they try to do without success.
Funnels: Step-by-step conversion funnel analysis broken down by segment, device and traffic source.
Form analytics: Specific analysis of behavior in forms: which fields generate the most errors, where users abandon, how much time they spend on each field.
The personalization module allows creating differentiated experiences by segment without requiring a test. Segments are defined by behavior, geolocation, traffic source, CRM data or any custom variable. This is especially useful for improving eCommerce conversion rate with experiences adapted to the user's position in the funnel.
For backend experimentation and feature management, VWO Full Stack offers SDKs in major programming languages. It allows testing server logic, pricing algorithms and product features with the same metrics and dashboard as frontend tests.

Optimizely has more advanced experimentation capabilities in the enterprise tier and a content ecosystem with Optimizely CMS, but at a significantly higher cost. AB Tasty shares positioning but without the qualitative insights module that differentiates VWO. Kameleoon is more technical and strong on privacy. VWO's advantage is consolidating qualitative insight tools (Microsoft Clarity or Contentsquare would be external alternatives for this function) with experimentation in a single platform.
At Boost we chose VWO as our primary testing tool for several reasons:
Complete cycle on one platform. The CRO workflow — observing behavior (heatmaps + recordings), identifying problems (funnels + form analytics), formulating hypotheses, testing and personalizing — can be executed entirely in VWO without jumping between tools.
Statistical quality. VWO uses SmartStats, its Bayesian statistics engine, which allows making decisions faster and with less traffic than classical frequentist models. This is especially relevant for clients with medium-low traffic where tests take a long time to reach statistical significance.
Client accessibility. VWO dashboards are comprehensible for non-technical stakeholders. Sharing the status and results of a testing program with management or clients is straightforward, without needing to export data or prepare additional reports.
Relationship with Wingify. As an official partner, we have access to priority support, betas of new features and ongoing team training.
Pre-test diagnosis. A CRO audit with VWO Insights identifies the pages with the greatest problems: where scroll stops, which elements receive few clicks despite being important, at which checkout field the most users abandon.
Checkout testing. The checkout is the area where testing ROI is most evident. VWO allows testing the number of steps, form fields, displayed payment methods and trust messages with direct revenue measurement.
Exit surveys. The survey module allows directly asking users who are about to leave what stopped them. This qualitative data, combined with session recordings, is the foundation of test hypotheses with a high probability of impact.
Post-test personalization. When a test demonstrates that a variant converts better for a specific segment, VWO Personalize allows permanently activating that experience for that segment without waiting for a general redesign.
For more granular user-level behavioral data, VWO's integration with PostHog allows enriching analyses with product data and behavioral cohorts.
VWO is installed via a JavaScript snippet in the page head. To mitigate flickering, the snippet includes a variant assignment cookie that resolves before render. Basic implementation takes less than 30 minutes; complete setup of conversion events and custom segments may require 1 to 5 days depending on complexity.
VWO is the most complete CRO platform on the market for teams that want to manage the complete optimization cycle — from qualitative observation to testing and personalization — without multiplying the tools in their stack.
At Boost, as an official VWO partner, we design and implement structured experimentation programs that generate measurable impact on our clients' conversion rate. If you want to know what is holding back your conversion, start with a free audit at Scan&Boost.
