Product life cycle: stages, strategies, and examples
The 4 stages of the product life cycle, which conversion strategies to apply at each one, and real examples from Netflix, Spotify, and more.

70% of the content companies publish is read by no one. It's created without strategy, without data, and without a clear conversion objective. The result: blogs full of generic articles that neither rank nor convert.
Content marketing works. But only when done methodically. And above all, when connected to a real conversion strategy.
Content marketing is the creation and distribution of valuable, relevant, and consistent content to attract and retain a defined audience, with the goal of driving profitable customer actions.
The key word is profitable. Content without a conversion strategy is journalism. And most companies aren't media outlets.
Despite content saturation and the rise of generative AI, content marketing remains one of the channels with the best ROI:
But there's an important nuance: these numbers come from companies that do content marketing well. Most don't.
Publishing articles about what you "think" interests your audience is shooting in the dark. Without keyword research, you don't know:
Not all content serves the same purpose. An awareness article ("what is CRO") and a case study ("how we increased conversion by 136%") serve completely different functions in the funnel.
Measuring blog traffic without measuring the conversions it generates is like counting how many people enter your store without counting how many buy. Traffic without conversion is a cost, not an investment.
Before creating a single piece of content, you need to know who you're writing for. Use your user personas (if you don't have them, create them with real data) to answer:
Don't just look for search volume. Look for purchase intent:
| Keyword type | Intent | Example | Conversion value | |---|---|---|---| | Informational | Learn | "what is CRO" | Low (awareness) | | Investigation | Compare options | "best CRO agency Spain" | Medium (consideration) | | Transactional | Buy/hire | "hire CRO agency" | High (decision) | | Navigational | Find brand | "Boost CRO" | Very high (branded) |
Prioritize transactional and investigation keywords. Informational ones generate traffic but not leads.
Every piece of content should have a clear objective and a defined next step:
Top of Funnel (TOFU) — Awareness:
Middle of Funnel (MOFU) — Consideration:
Bottom of Funnel (BOFU) — Decision:
Content that converts meets these characteristics:
Creating content is 50% of the work. Distributing it is the other 50%:
| Content type | SEO impact | Conversion impact | Effort | |---|---|---|---| | Comprehensive guides (3,000+ words) | High | Medium | High | | Case studies | Medium | Very high | Medium | | Comparisons ("X vs Y") | High | High | Medium | | Lists ("Top 10...") | High | Low | Low | | Tools/calculators | Very high | Very high | Very high | | Webinars | Low | High | High | | Infographics | Medium | Low | Medium | | Templates | High | High | Medium |
Case studies and interactive tools are the formats with the highest conversion impact. Listicles generate traffic but rarely convert directly.
This is where most fail. The organic traffic your blog generates doesn't convert on its own — you need to optimize the conversion experience within the content:
Don't put a generic "Contact us" banner in every article. Adapt the CTA to the topic:
Every TOFU article should link to MOFU content, and every MOFU to BOFU. Create a natural path from educational content to conversion.
When a user has read 70% of an article, they've demonstrated interest. That's the moment to show a relevant CTA (not an invasive popup, but a bar or inline CTA).
Offer a downloadable resource related to the article in exchange for an email. An article about "how to create user personas" can offer a downloadable template.
Don't just measure traffic. Measure content's contribution to revenue:
Content marketing isn't publishing articles. It's building a system that attracts qualified traffic, nurtures it with relevant content, and converts it into customers. Without a conversion strategy, your blog is a cost. With one, it's your most profitable acquisition channel.
